The mountain doctor (series of novels)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mountain doctor , Dr. Burger: Fates Between Valley and Summit , is a booklet series published by Bastei-Verlag .

Series progress

The series, which was written by a team of main and co-authors (including Uwe Helmut Grave ), who changed several times over the years, under the pseudonym Andreas Kufsteiner, started in 1980. In 2012, over 1,620 issues were published. A second edition was started a year later and has now reached around 1260 editions.

In 1993 the attempt to establish a magazine for a series on the magazine market failed after just one issue. Between 2005 and 2012, several book editions, each with several reprints, were published by Weltbild Verlag and Tosa Verlag . Some of them also appeared as licensed editions in book clubs . The paperback edition, also here with several reprints per volume, was discontinued by Bastei-Lübbe after six volumes.

The series of novels has been published in the form of a digital edition by Bastei Lübbe Verlag since 2014, from episode 1675.

Series world

The series takes place in St. Christoph, an imaginary mountain village in the Zillertal . In this place there is an old hotel, the history and stories of which are in the series Das Berghotel . A doctor also practices there: Dr. Martin Burger - The Mountain Doctor. He is described as someone “whose personal fate has made him receptive to the problems and suffering of his fellow human beings.” Burger is therefore an authority in his village, social and moral, straightforward and committed to traditional values.

Film adaptations

In 1992 the first film adaptation of the series started on Sat.1 . The series was produced by NDF , which made some modifications. So the protagonist was now called Dr. Thomas Burgner and the place of the action was renamed Sonnenstein. The series ended after 96 episodes in 2005. In 1992, 1993 and 1995 Bastei-Lübbe published a paperback by Susanne Scheibler with a novel about the series - based on scripts for the Sat.1 series.

Another film adaptation started on ZDF in 2008, this time for ZDF and ORF , again produced by NDF. The changes compared to the magazine series were even greater than in the first series. The plot was moved to Ellmau and the general practitioner Dr. Burger became the surgeon Dr. Martin Gruber.
