Der Herzstecher is a satirical novel by the German writer Georg Lentz , published in 1987.

action

The novel deals with the tragicomic to fantastic experiences of a Viennese clique who eloquently and humorously belonged to upper class society from birth on the one hand, but without hesitation takes on dubious existences in their circle, as long as they are sufficiently amusing. Together they enjoy the typical doomsday mood in the Austrian capital to the full.

review

Cornelia Köster noted in Die Zeit the linguistic wit and ingenuity of the story, but missed a common thread . In addition, she felt that all the figures were "brightly made up, trimmed for originality". Köster finally drew the following conclusion: “Sometimes there are funny passages, but Lentzen's pleasure in nonsense always remains on the bottom of stupid things. With a length of almost three hundred pages, it gradually gets on your nerves - like the swaggering of an alcoholic who finds himself ingenious because he never gets to the point ”.
