The Persian and the Swedish (Original: Jeunesse perdue ) is a Swedish film from 1961. It is a kind of early sex film and in 2016 it became known to a wider public again.

history

The Swedish film The Persian and the Swedish Woman (Original: Jeunesse perdue ) was largely produced in London in 1961 . The Iranian Akramzadeh directed his only feature film, wrote the screenplay, played the leading role and possibly also took over the production in personal union.

The film was shown in German cinemas in the 1960s, but has not been released since then. The film was not even listed in the IMDb film database until it was rediscovered . Only one entry with the Catholic Film Service for the German premiere in 1961 can be found in the archives.

The Forgotten Film Entertainment label from Nuremberg rediscovered the film in 2015 and began restoring it. Since the film was very unknown and a re-release was economically risky, Forgotten Film started a crowdfunding campaign with the aim of finding at least 350 supporters to produce a DVD.

action

The Persian medical student Mustafa studies in London. He celebrates parties in the emerging student scene and meets girls. He tries to win girls over in the Soho nightlife . Mustafa is particularly fond of two young Swedes with whom he is dating. However, his carefree idleness does not go well for long: the university threatens to be de-registered, the parents in the distant home no longer want to finance his life and one of the two students is pregnant by him.

reception

The film promises the viewer, via the detour of the plot, to immerse themselves in the amusement in the London district of Soho and thus to see the relaxed lifestyle and the sexual intercourse that was permissive for the time. Akramzadeh shows in detail a flamenco show, a Caribbean drum interlude, an Indian dance and also more classic cabaret numbers. The film also portrays Persian life in London in the early 1960s and the cultural differences and tensions.
