The tower (Bezau)
The tower (also: old tower ) is the regional name for a former Fronfeste in Bezau in the Bregenz Forest ( Vorarlberg , Austria ). The building was erected in 1806 as a three-story structure and is a listed building.
history
The building was built in 1806 by the Bregenzerwald estate under the rule of Bavaria as a courthouse and prison . In the Napoleonic period, between 1806 and 1814, the Vorarlberg area belonged to Bavaria.
In 1891 Josef Stülz (1845 to 1919) acquired the house , who lived here with his wife Anna (née Winkel) for over 20 years. Josef Stülz is regarded as the most important cultural personality in the Bregenzerwald at the turn of the century. He worked in Bezau as a composer , choir director , conductor of the wind and string orchestra, organist , teacher , bookbinder and photographer .

The free-standing, brick-built building has a floor area of about 11 × 9 meters and is about 652 m above sea level. A. It is provided with a gable roof with dormer window (north) and hip ( crooked hip roof) and covered with square , medium-gray Eternit shingles. The windows and doors are symmetrically distributed in the facade. In the western and eastern roof area of the attic there is a visible half-timbered construction . In order to use the top floor, modern skylights were built into the roof in the south .
The style of the building is functional and simple in the style of fortifications from this time.
The street Bezegg leads directly to the east of the building and the street Platz to the north.
