Der Zinker (Original title: The Squeaker ) is a crime novel and a play by the English writer Edgar Wallace .

The original edition appeared in 1927, the German translation for the first time in 1928. On May 29 of the same year, the play with the same title and content premiered in London . The German translation of the play was also published in 1928 under the title Der Zinker . In total, the novel has been filmed four times to date. In terms of content, the film adaptations sometimes differ greatly from the novel.

The zincer is a feared fence in the London underworld. He blackmailed crooks who had to sell him stolen goods for a fraction of their true value. Otherwise the crooks will be "galvanized", ie denounced, at Scotland Yard. One day there is a murder that is on the account of the Zinker. The trail leads Inspectors Elford and Barrabal to Frank Sutton's import-export company. Reporter Josua Harras also senses a great opportunity and follows the trail of the zinc worker.
