The blue rider ( spelling : the blue rider ) is a popular scientific journal for philosophy based in Hanover . The journal appears every six months, in spring and autumn. Each issue is thematically accompanied and illustrated by a contemporary artist. The editor-in-chief of the Blue Rider is Siegfried Reusch.

concept

According to its own statements, Der Blaue Reiter is not a purely philosophical journal, but aims to present philosophy on a scientific level that is nevertheless understandable for laypeople and is also visually appealing.

Each issue has a central theme ("Truth", "Friendship", "Luxury" etc.), which has a certain topicality or a social or scientific relevance for the present. The main topic is deepened through various forms of presentation (main articles, shorter essays, lexicon entries, reviews, etc.). Both historical perspectives of the conceptual and historical development of ideas as well as systematic perspectives of the respective topics are examined in the individual contributions. The combination of legibility and well-founded objectivity with the highest possible entertainment value is the guiding principle of the journal. Quotations in foreign languages are translated, technical terms are explained, key terms are explained in separate layout elements. Each issue is preceded by a two-page editorial by Siegfried Reusch, which offers a brief overview of the articles provided in the magazine.

Press reviews

“... one of the most remarkable philosophy magazines ... As demanding as necessary, as understandable as necessary. May such luxury remain with us for the benefit of philosophy. " - SWR2 “On Saturday Afternoon”, April 18, 2015

“Much can be attributed to the brisk side, others to the highly academic side, which wants good but cannot write easily. The journal for philosophy of the blue rider moves in the golden mean. The magazine, which appears twice a year, is also philosophical in that it has an idealistic attitude: authors, artists (responsible for the successful design), editors and publishers work free of charge. " - Mannheimer Morgen, September 21, 2009

“Since 1995, the editorial team has been able to attract well-known authors from a wide variety of humanities and cultural studies. For example Peter Sloterdijk, Vittorio Hösle, Jürgen Mittelstraß, Jan Assmann and former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt. A main task of philosophy is the establishment and the confirmed questioning of the tasks and foundations of science and society. The journal also tries to fulfill this task in a generally understandable and constructive-critical way - and the journal manages this extremely well without drifting into popular science. " - Owlfish Literature, 2/2009
