Saint George defeats the dragon in Isle-Saint-Georges

The Bas-Relief Saint George defeating the dragon at St-Georges Church in Isle-Saint-Georges , a French commune in the Gironde department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was created in the 14th century. In 1986 the Gothic sculpture was added to the list of listed objects ( Base Palissy ) in France as Monument historique .

The bas-relief on the outside wall of the church comes from the early days of the church. St. George on horseback and dressed as a knight looks at the dragon lying below him , who no longer offers any resistance. To the right of this is the king's daughter who was to be sacrificed to the dragon. The scene symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
