The Merry War is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 397). The place and date of the premiere are not known.

Remarks

The work was compiled based on motifs from the operetta of the same name, The Funny War , which premiered in 1881 . It thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 398 , 399 , 400 , 401 , 402 , 403 , 404 , 405 and 407 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. Specifically, pieces from the ensemble Ja hurry out of the 1st act, the finale of the 2nd act. Let's stand ready for a fight and the trio fame and honor! processed from the 3rd act of the operetta. The date and place of the premiere are not known. The march was only released after the operetta had premiered on November 25, 1881.
