Fresh into the field

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fresh into the field is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 398). The work was performed for the first time on January 6, 1882 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein .

Remarks

The work was compiled based on the motifs of the operetta The Merry War , which premiered in 1881 . It joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 397 , 399 , 400 , 401 , 402 , 403 , 404 , 405 and 407 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. In this case, the composer has the numbers 8 and 8a of the score ( I have commanded, instructed some companies ; I want to see the enemy who can resist ) and processed motifs from the 1st act of the operetta. The march was dedicated to Duke Adolph von Nassau Infantry Regiment No. 15.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 6 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
