Derek Geldart

Derek Geldart (born September 4, 1931 in Stockton-on-Tees , † December 2012 ) was a British chemical engineer who worked as a professor of powder research at Bradford University .

Geldart did his master's degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and then worked for the Atomic Energy Agency, among others . From 1967 he dealt with the topic of fluidization. In 1971 he received the Ph.D. , but it was two years before his work was published in a trade journal. He was later appointed to Bradford University, where he remained until his retirement.

His main scientific achievement was the introduction of the Geldart groups for the classification of fluidized bed processes in 1973.
