Derrière le miroir (DLM) was an artist edition published by the French publishers Maeght . It was published from 1946 to 1982 in a total of 201 editions and today represents an important contemporary document on the visual arts of the post-war period. Most of the booklets also included original graphics ( lithographs , etchings , serigraphs or woodcuts ) by important contemporary artists, most of whom were in the Fernand Mourlot were printed.

The intention of this publication was to present original graphic works by well-known artists such as Marc Chagall , Joan Miró , Georges Braque , Pablo Picasso and others. v. a. to make it accessible to the general public by creating original graphics especially for the respective issue. Consequently, these works are also in the corresponding catalog of works recorded by the artist, in contrast to an art print . This fact makes the early original editions in particular popular collector's items today.

Famous writers and poets such as Samuel Beckett , Paul Éluard , Jean-Paul Sartre and others took over the literary patronage in the form of previously unpublished texts . v. a., with specific reference to the respective artist or his work.

A large part of the late editions can still be obtained from the publisher today, while the early (and later often reprinted as "Réédition") original editions can only be found at, for example, second-hand bookshops or on collectors' fairs. The parallel published special editions in small editions of 150 numbered and mostly signed copies by the artist are long out of print.
