Des Moines is a place in Union County in the US state of New Mexico in the United States with 177 inhabitants ( as of 2000) .

The place is located in the northwest of the county in the northeastern corner of New Mexico, is in the north about 10 km from Colorado , in the east about 30 km from Oklahoma and has a total area of 2.8 km² without any significant water surface.

After the census of 2000, there 177 people in 72 households and 49 families lived. The population density was 62.6 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 79.66% White, 1.13% Native American, 15.82% from other races.
