Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin

Desiderio Hernández Xochitiotzin (born February 11, 1922 in San Bernardino Contla , Tlaxcala State , † September 14, 2007 in Tlaxcala City ) was a Mexican artist.

Hernández studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Puebla and first exhibited in public in 1947. Before he settled in the city of Tlaxcala in February 1957 and began painting murales , he traveled through Mexico and Europe. In his art he mainly dealt with the culture, the landscape and the history of Tlaxcala.

After his death he was posthumously honored for his services as "Embajador de la Cultura Tlaxcaltec" ( Ambassador of Tlaxcaltec culture ) and his name was immortalized on the plaque of honor in the state's congress building. The Instituto Tlaxcalteca de la Cultura (ITC) was also honored. After the funeral in the Catedral de Nuestra Señora de La Asunción , the urn burial of his body took place the next day.

Hernández was a founding member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana . He was married to Lilia Ortega Lira . The marriage resulted in ten children, including the artist Cuahutlatohuac H. Xochitiotzin Ortega .
