Female cosmetic intimate surgery ( clitoral hood reduction and labia reduction ): The clitoral hood and inner labia were completely removed from this woman

Female genital cosmetic surgery or cosmetic surgery of the female genitalia (Engl. Female genital cosmetic surgery , abbreviated FGC) is a generic term in the medical terminology for plastic surgery , the aesthetic appearance of the vulva are said to improve. They can therefore be understood as a form of cosmetic surgery. The term designer vagina is often used colloquially for this type of modification, although most procedures involve changing the labia and surrounding structures rather than the vagina itself.

The size, color, and shape of the vulva vary significantly from woman to woman and can change with childbirth, aging, and other events. Nevertheless, some women have certain ideas about the vulva: this should supposedly form a smooth vertical slit, without protruding structures through the inner labia or clitoral hood, and free of pubic hair .

In addition to aesthetic considerations, functional aspects can also play a role, i. H. improving sexual irritability or reducing irritation from friction. The anatomical structures that are most commonly altered are the labia minora and the clitoral hood. But the labia majora, the vagina, the perineum and the mons pubic are also treated.

Types of procedure

Labioplasty

The shrinking of the inner labia is usually referred to as labioplasty or labioplasty . This can be achieved through various surgical techniques. Although this operation is mostly aesthetically motivated, in some cases the long inner labia can also be functionally impaired. A reduction of the labia majora is done less often.

Clitoral hood reduction

Clitoral hood reduction is the tightening, shortening or removal of the clitoral hood . This is often done together with a labia plasty of the labia minora to create a uniform appearance. In addition, the resulting exposure of the clitoris can increase the ability to stimulate and thus increase sexual pleasure in some women.

Vaginoplasty

The elective Vaginoplasty (engl. Vaginal rejuvenation ) is a process for strengthening and toning of the vagina and for narrowing the vestibule ( vestibulum vaginae ).

Venus mound correction

Mons correction (engl. Monsplasty ) refers to methods for tightening or reduction of the mons ( mons pubis ) by means of skin tightening or liposuction, when it is formed large or relaxed by obesity, weight variations or aging.
