Deoxypyridinoline is a degradation product of bone - collagen . It is excreted in the urine through the kidneys . The indication for testing for this substance arises from the question of an increased bone remodeling rate . The concentration of deoxypyridinoline in the urine is increased, for example, in primary hyperparathyroidism , bone metastases and Paget's disease .
