The distillery is a former warehouse in the old town center of Hann. Münden in southern Lower Saxony . The stone building, which was built in the first third of the 20th century and is now a listed building, was initially used for grain storage and drying.

history

Today's double lot 9 and 11 on the street “Behind the City Wall” was built on for the first time in 1796, as evidenced by the year 1796 on a monogram stone in the vaulted cellar of the distillery. At that time, the Mündener businessman Johann Philipp Holtzmüller built a warehouse. It was later expanded into a larger half-timbered house for drying and storing grain. In 1918 a fire, probably caused by the grain drying plant, destroyed the warehouse.

Between 1933 and 1935, today's building of the distillery was built as a four-story, massive brick building with heavy-duty wooden beam ceilings . The building served the nearby Münderschen mill as a drying and storage room. From the 1950s to the 1990s, the fruit wine tavern Louis Winkelmann used the building as a wine and spirits warehouse, which gave the distillery its name . After that, the building stood empty for years. After a local monument activist acquired the distillery in 2006, it served as a location for cultural events from 2007 to 2014. This included the annual Monument Art Festival from 2007 to 2013 , at which artists exhibited in historical buildings such as the distillery or used them for music events. The still has been converted into living space since around 2012. During the renovation work, remnants of the grain drying system were discovered, which probably led to the building fire in 1918. The distillery could be visited on the day of the monument . With the completion of the conversion to living space at the beginning of 2017, the building can no longer be visited.
