Detlef Helling (born April 20, 1950 in Brackwede ) is a German politician and former member of the German Bundestag ( CDU ) .

Life

Helling graduated from secondary school in 1966 and then completed an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant. From 1972 to 1974 he obtained the technical college entrance qualification and has been working as a freelance retailer since 1975. Helling is married and has one daughter.

Helling is a member of the CDU, for which he was deputy district chairman of the Brackwede district from 1979 to 1989 . He has been a member of the Bielefeld City Council since 1984. From 1999 to 2004 he was first, from 2004 to 2009 he was second honorary mayor of the city. Since 1999 he has also been chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the regional council of the district government in Detmold. On April 10, 2002, he replaced MP Norbert Hauser , who had resigned, to the Bundestag, but left again at the end of the legislative period in autumn of the same year. Until 2006, Helling was deputy district chairman of the Bielefeld CDU for almost ten years. In autumn 2007 Detlef Helling announced his application for the election of the CDU mayor candidate in Bielefeld for 2009, but withdrew it in February 2008. After the municipal elections in August 2009, Detlef Helling was elected 1st Mayor by the Bielefeld City Council as Deputy Mayor . He held this office until 2014. Detlef Helling is Vice President of the DRK district association in Bielefeld.
