Detlef Krüger (born July 6, 1943 ) is a former German rugby union player, trainer and university professor. He was a national player and coach in the former GDR .

Live and act

Detlef Krüger began playing rugby at school age at BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf , the top club in what was then the GDR. Due to his studies he moved to Potsdam , where he played with the local university group and with SG Dynamo Potsdam , today's USV Potsdam . With SG Dynamo he won the cup of the German Rugby Sports Association of the GDR in 1975 . The Dynamo established itself as a top team in the league and was able to achieve some second and third places in the championship.

In addition, Krüger was once in the squad of the rugby union national team of the GDR . After the long-time national coach Erwin Thiesies resigned from office in 1972 , the 29-year-old Detlef Krüger took over the post. He was to practice it for eleven years, until 1983. Krüger initially worked as a sports lecturer at the Potsdam University of Education and from 1991 to 2002 at the University of Potsdam . Even after he officially left the university, he was in charge of rugby courses at the university. During his training, teams have repeatedly won the German University Championships. The men's team he trained won in 2001 and 2002 and the women's team in 2007, 2008 and 2017. At times, Krüger also took on the supervision of the university sports club's men's team.
