Career

He has been drawing cartoons and comic stories since 1979. His comic strip Emil appeared from 1983 to 1990 in the Berlin city magazine Zitty , as well as in AKKU , the youth supplement of the WAZ . Surrey took a degree in visual communication at the HdK Berlin, in 1986 he graduated as a designer. From 1992 he worked as an illustrator for publishers, magazines and institutions. Since 1988 he has been in a studio with Johann Kiefersauer.

In 2007 he created the sympathetic figure Karlchen Adler for the public relations work of the German Bundestag for children of primary school age. The figure was used to create explanatory comic stories ( Karlchen Adler and the elections, Karlchen Adler and the legislation ), as well as animated scenes for kuppelkucker.de , the website of the German Bundestag for children. Surrey has been a member of Urban Sketchers Berlin since 2012 .
