Detlef Wagenthaler (born August 1, 1948 in Aschaffenburg , † September 23, 2007 in Karlstadt ) was a German carnivalist. For more than 15 years he was vice-president and honorary member of the Fastnacht-Verband Franken (FVF) and from 1995 to 2005 chairman of the meeting of the nationwide television program Fastnacht in Franconia .

Life

Wagenthaler grew up in Karlstadt. From the beginning of the 1990s he headed the tourism, culture and public relations departments of the local city administration. His carnival activities began when he joined the 1st Elferrat Würzburg Carnival Society . There he appeared as a handicraft speaker at the age of 18 . He later co-founded the Karlstadt carnival society Die Schwedenmännli in his hometown .

When the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation first broadcast the carnival session Fastnacht in Franconia in 1987 in cooperation with the Fastnacht Association of Franconia , Wagenthaler was invited to speak. Eight years later, he was elected chairman of the meeting. Under his aegis, the event gained enormous popularity.

His "merciless jokes" were known and notorious. This meant puns, which often met a very strange kind of humor. The funny thing about these jokes was that the jokes weren't funny. Only the reaction of the audience (a murmur) caused the gag.

With the nationwide television broadcast, it reaches more than four million viewers annually. In 2005 he announced his resignation for health reasons after receiving emergency medical treatment during the transfer. He had previously been criticized for cracking insulting jokes at those present.

In 2006, together with Werner Hofmann, he launched the Karlstadt - red and erotic festival . Immediately before the moderation of an event as part of this series, Wagenthaler was found lifeless on the morning of September 23, 2007 by a passerby on Karlstadt's Main Promenade.

After an autopsy scheduled by the Würzburg criminal police, a fall is assumed to be the cause of the carnival's death.
