The "cult program", as Edmund Stoiber called it in 2004, was broadcast in the first year from Lichtenfels in Upper Franconia . A year later the event came from the Mainfrankensaele in Veitshöchheim , where it still takes place today. 100 to 150 of the total of 550 tickets are reserved for guests of honor. With up to 10,000 advance ticket orders per year, a raffle procedure was introduced in 1997 at the Fastnacht-Verband Franken in order to ensure the greatest possible fairness. In 1991 the carnival in Franconia was canceled due to the Second Gulf War . Since the first session, the finale of the program has been the song “Feierabend” by Peter Alexander, which was repositioned by the Hainis (later the Narr brothers). Since 2008 the “Parodis” have been singing the final track, as the Narr brothers took their leave of the stage. In the anniversary edition “30 years of Carnival in Franconia”, the Parodis and with them two of the last remaining Narr brothers said goodbye to the carnival stage in Veitshöchheim. They sang the final song of the show for the last time.

In 2008, the record was expanded again. An average of 1.87 million viewers watched in Bavaria; this corresponded to a market share of 45.1%. Germany-wide even watched up to 4.7 million viewers. Nationwide, the program from January 25, 2008 is one of the most successful BR programs of the last 20 years. In 2009 the program was followed nationwide by 3.55 million viewers (market share 12.1% across Germany), in Bavaria the program on February 13, 2009 saw 2.06 million viewers, a market share of 45.7%. This makes “Fastnacht in Franken” 2016 the second most successful show together with Fastnacht 2010. The anniversary edition of the TV show session in 2017 (30th edition) achieved the absolute rating record. At peak times, the fool's show tuned into 5.4 million viewers nationwide. The average value in 2017 was 4.47 million viewers at the federal level. The BR achieved a market share of 14.8%.

criticism

Traditional carnivalists criticize the fact that the concept of Fastnacht in Franconia has hardly anything to do with carnival since the Bavarian Broadcasting Company took over. Instead, the actors are almost exclusively recruited from the ranks of television-known cabaret artists and comedians, so that members of the carnival clubs (such as the Veitshöchheim Carnval Club 1966 eV ) are getting less and less involved.

According to reports from the Main-Post, there have been v. a. by the President of the FVF, Bernhard Schlereth, efforts to heave the TV show session from the BR into the program of the ARD. This met with broad criticism from actors and viewers, especially since it would lose the Franconian coloring.
