Otmar Ernst Schmelzer (mostly Oti Schmelzer , also Oti der Schmelzer or Otiderschmelzer ) (born February 2, 1961 ) is a German cabaret artist and winemaker from Oberschwappach , municipality of Knetzgau in the Steigerwald in Lower Franconia .

Schmelzer comes from a farming family in Oberschwappach. At the age of eleven, he began to be humorous, and this was followed by an engagement in the Oberschwappach village carnival. Later he performed all over Franconia. In 1999 he made his first appearance at the Carnival in Franconia in Veitshöchheim as a representative for Wolfgang Düringer . From the beginning he was part of the ensemble of the foolish wine tasting in Würzburg . Since 2004 he has been running the Scheuerte Weindunstbühne on his farm in Oberschwappach, which is attended by around 1500 spectators in around fifteen performances every year. Since 2011 he has been a permanent member of Carnival in Franconia. There he always appears in elaborate costumes, his trademark are long, sung rhymes that he accompanies on the harmonica.

Viticulture

When he was 23, Schmelzer was given the ownership of his parents' farm. He leased the fields while he expanded the viticulture and increased the quality. For example, he was the first in Oberschwappach to green his vineyards. Today it produces around 7000 bottles a year.

Private

Schmelzer is the youngest of three brothers and the father of two daughters. He has completed an apprenticeship as a gardener , which is why he was later able to complete his training as a winemaker in just three years while working. He has been working full-time as a road attendant for the Knetzgau motorway maintenance facility on the A 70 for over 30 years . His hobbies include jogging, running a marathon and playing chess, as well as making music with the trombone and the Styrian harmonica . He is a devout Catholic , but is at times critical of the Church. The series “ Lebenslinien” of Bavarian TV dedicated an episode of its own to him.
