Detlev Knoll

Detlev Knoll (* 1941 / 1942 ) is a former German basketball player .

Life

Originally from Prenzlau  , Knoll was initially a track and field athlete , but in 1963 he came to basketball. He played for ASK Vorwärts Leipzig (later HSG KMU Leipzig) and was GDR champion ten times with the team in the 1960s and 1970s. With Leipzig, the 2.04 meter tall player also competed in the European Champions Cup . From 1985 he was coach of the men's team at HSG KMU Leipzig.

With the GDR national team, he took part in the European Championship in Finland in 1967 and was the best German scorer during the tournament with an average of 13.9 points per match.

Knoll still played basketball when he was retired, including for SSV Lok Bernau at the final of the German championship in the 65+ age group.
