The Association for Radiation Protection e. V. is a registered association based in Jülich. The management is based in Garching near Munich . Due to its geographical area of ​​activity, the association also describes itself as the German-Swiss professional association for radiation protection.

tasks

The association deals with:

  • Exchange of information and experience from scientific and practical radiation protection
  • Promotion of research and technology; Education and training and clarification of legal issues
  • Participation in the drafting of laws, ordinances, norms, guidelines, recommendations, work regulations, etc.
  • Participation in the preparation of plans for measures against radiological incidents and disasters
  • Assistance in maintaining and restoring radiological safety
  • Informing the public

The association represents Germany and Switzerland in the umbrella organization International Radiation Protection Association (IRPA).

The professional association has 1,460 member organizations. The highest body is the annual general meeting. Operational management lies with the board of directors, which is supported by four other board members. The board of directors is elected every two years by the members of the professional association by postal vote. There are currently 13 working groups for practical work, each headed by a secretary and his deputy. There is also an AKSys working group for cooperation with the Association for Safety, Health and Environmental Protection at Work and a working group for public relations .

The association is the publisher of the (quarterly) trade journal StrahlenschutzPRAXIS (SSP) ISSN  0947-434X , which is distributed by the publisher of TÜV Rheinland based in Cologne .

Radiation protection COMPACT

The association has published the Radiation ProtectionKOMPAKT brochure since 2014. In the meantime, nine brochures (as of August 2019) on the following topics have been published.

Rupprecht-Maushart Prize

Since 2010 the Association for Radiation Protection eV has been awarding the Rupprecht-Maushart Prize as part of its young talent promotion program. The prize is awarded for outstanding master's or diploma theses, dissertations or publications in scientific journals with peer review relating to radiation protection. The time to which the submitted work relates is limited to the past two calendar years. The participants should not have reached the age of 35. The award is named after Rupprecht Maushart , a founding and honorary member and former president of the professional association.
