Association

The German Association for Hand Therapy was on May 6, 1995 Munich established to research , quality assurance and distribution of hand therapy to promote. Hand therapy aims to restore the functions of the hand in the context of congenital ( dysmelia ), traumatic or degenerative diseases of the upper extremity / arm . DAHTH e. V. is a full member of the "European Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy (EFSHT)" and the international Society for Hand Therapy (IFSHT) and thus the official representative of hand therapy in Germany in international specialist societies. There are also cooperations with the professional associations in Austria (Austrian Society for Hand Therapy, ÖGHT) and Switzerland (Swiss Society for Hand Rehabilitation, SGHR).

The association represents the interests of its members, especially in national and international professional associations, as well as towards insurance carriers.

aims

The association aims to promote the research, standardization , further development and dissemination of hand therapy in Germany at the highest level and to establish it in the long term. This is done on the basis of the bio-psycho-social model of functional health ICF International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health . Together with the German Society for Hand Surgery, DGH, evidence-based medical guidelines are designed and implemented. It also supports or participates in the development and dissemination of research projects and offers a platform for the publication of research results in the context of the specialist journal or congresses. A joint specialist congress has been held annually since 2006 in close cooperation with the DGH.

In addition to the opportunity to acquire the additional qualification as a hand therapist DAHTH, there are DAHTH regional groups in almost every federal state that contribute to comprehensive quality assurance . This is done e.g. B. via workshops, subject-specific discussions, planning of therapy studies and review of specialist literature. The DAHTH also grants the approval of facilities with special hand therapy competence as "hand therapy focus practice" or "hand therapy specialist department". For this purpose, at least 1500 treatments of patients with hand injuries per year must be proven according to a strict catalog of criteria, as well as close cooperation with at least one hand surgeon. On the club website there is also a map for patients and doctors on which hand therapists, practices and specialist departments who practice according to the criteria of DAHTH are listed.

The "Zeitschrift für Handtherapie" (magazine for hand therapy), which appears every six months, also serves to convey specialist knowledge and current association news. It is included in the membership fee. Further information in the form of leaflets was created on the subject of "Further training hand therapist DAHTH", as well as on the tasks and goals of DAHTH in German and English. As a member of the EFSHT, DAHTH receives the quarterly English-language journal "Hand Therapy", in which current evidence-based studies in the field of hand therapy are published. In addition to the honorary main board, various committees are active in the areas of training , public relations, congresses, international contacts and guidelines. DAHTH also sees the interdisciplinary exchange of doctors and therapists at home and abroad as an essential task. This also includes the placement of internships.
