The German Foreign Trade and Transport Academy ( DAV ) based in Bremen is a private adult education institution . The courses and further education offered by the DAV are primarily aimed at young professionals from the fields of logistics, supply chain management and industry. The supporting company is BVL Campus gGmbH as part of the Bundesvereinigung Logistik e. V. (BVL) .

history

The DAV was founded in 1960 as an initiative of science, business and politics to enable "further education". The sponsoring association of the German Foreign Trade and Transport School was founded a year earlier for this purpose, and in 1972 it became part of Förderkreis Wirtschaft e. V. and in 1994 renamed the Association of Patrons of the DAV (today Alumni Association). In 1978 logisticians from industry, trade, services and science founded the Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL) on the premises of the DAV. In 1988 the facility became part of the German Foreign Trade and Transport Academy (DAV) e. V. renamed.

Ekkehard Birnstiel became the first director of studies when the study began in the 1960 summer semester. In 1961, the first examination regulations were approved and the AStA was founded. In 1966 Hanspeter Stabenau took over the direction of the study. He was followed in 1979 by Dr. Volker Weddige, 2005 Dr. Samir Saleh and 2007 Josef Decker. Thomas Zink has been director of studies at the DAV since 2010.

For its 50th anniversary in 2010, the DAV had 5,138 graduates.

Location

The DAV has been located in Bremen- Horn-Lehe near the campus of the University of Bremen since 2008 . At the time of its establishment, the facility was located for the first eight years in the building Hinter der Mauer 9/10 in Bremen-Mitte on the Weser. In 1968 a move was made to the premises of Börsenhof B, Marktstrasse 2, where the study program had been located for forty years.

Course offer

The DAV offers the "International Logistics Management" course with a double degree, the Bachelor of Science (Hons.) And the state-certified business economist . The Bachelor's degree was first issued to graduates of the 2018 winter semester, in cooperation with Liverpool John Moores University in Great Britain. The range of courses is primarily aimed at trained businesspeople in the field of logistics, e.g. B. Merchants for forwarding and logistics services (until August 1, 2004 forwarding agent) or shipping agent. The course begins annually in April and October and has been optionally available in April since 2007 while working.

Alumni Association

On November 13, 1962, graduates of the DAV founded the Association of Alumni of the German Foreign Trade and Transport School. V. (VDE). In 2000 this became with the Association of Sponsors of the DAV to today's Association of Sponsors and Graduates of the DAV (VFA) e. V. merged. The office of the VFA is in the premises of the DAV itself.

When the association was founded, the following were defined as goals:

  • The material support of the academy and the students
  • To promote the further education of the graduates after their studies in contact with the DAV in the form of symposia, lectures and "brush-ups" in seminar form
  • Organizational and financial support for regional events, the continuation of the semester magazine together with the active people, establishment of a job exchange
  • Organization of cultural and social meetings for club members
  • Increased awareness of the DAV and attracting new students

Adult education

In 1976 the DAV first offered the preparatory course for the Chamber of Commerce examination "Transport specialist specializing in forwarding". Since October 1, 2013, this commercial advancement training has been offered under the Vocational Training Act under the title “Certified specialist for freight transport and logistics”. The degree is awarded by the IHK Bremen after successfully passing the final examination.
