German library statistics

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Library Statistics ( DBS ) is the only national statistics covering all library categories and based on uniform definitions ( DIN EN ISO 2789 "International Library Statistics ").

The creation of the DBS is one of the tasks of the Competence Network for Libraries (KNB) and is carried out for this by the University Library Center of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (hbz). The KNB, and thus also the DBS, is financed by the German federal states through the Standing Conference (KMK) .

The DBS database provides online library performance data from around 14,000 libraries since 1999. For the 2016 reporting year, 7,774 libraries reported their statistical data on equipment, holdings, loans, expenses, finances and staff to the DBS, including 7,530 public libraries, 244 academic universal and university libraries and 176 academic specialist libraries.
