The German Brain Tumor Association eV is an independent, nonprofit organization promoting neuro oncology research and improve patient care.

history

Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe was founded on August 1st, 1998. In 2000, the association initiated World Brain Tumor Day , which takes place on June 8th as a day of remembrance and action.

organization

The seat of the association is Leipzig . According to its own information, the association currently has around 1200 members from 14 nations. It is considered to be the only organization in the German-speaking region that specifically advocates the interests of brain tumor patients. In line with the motto “Knowledge creates the future”, patients and specialists are provided with current information on standards and progress in the treatment of brain tumors . Assistance and help are offered to brain tumor and brain metastasis patients.

occasion

In Germany alone, more than 7,000 people develop malignant primary brain tumors every year , and worldwide there are over 700 new cases every day. The number of patients with brain metastases who develop as a result of other cancers is significantly higher . In children, brain tumors are the second most common cancer.

activity

Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe creates publicity for brain tumor patients through campaigns such as World Brain Cancer Day. This is supported by appropriate clinics. Information days and symposia are also organized in cooperation with local specialist clinics .

The support of those affected with all tumor diseases is achieved through cooperation with psycho-oncologists .

Information days

Numerous doctors and scientists take part in the information days of the German Brain Tumor Aid .

International networking

The Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe cooperates with the International Brain Tumor Alliance.

World Brain Cancer Day

The aim of the day is to attract global public attention to this little-known cancer type, which is rare in comparison to other cancers , and to make the public aware of the situation of brain tumor patients . In addition, the day is intended to be a reminder to those responsible in politics and business to support research and increased interdisciplinary cooperation in order to increase the therapeutic options.

Promotion of patient groups

In addition to maintaining national and international professional contacts, we cooperate with national and international patient groups. The aim is to continuously improve the care network for cancer patients by supporting patient initiatives. Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe has been initiating and promoting regional patient groups since it was founded, particularly for brain tumor and brain metastasis patients. Not only the self-help idea, but also the concrete work of these regional brain tumor patient groups is promoted. Those affected are supported in coping with illness through a large number of projects. With the help of the German Brain Tumor Aid, there are now over 50 active patient groups and over 200 regional telephone contacts nationwide.

The German Brain Tumor Aid is named as a contact by specialists and specialist clinics.

Publications

Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe publishes the irregularly appearing magazine brainstorm , which, according to the association, is aimed at doctors as well as patients and their relatives.
