The German private school ( english German Private School ) is a historic school building in Tsumeb in the region Oshikoto in Namibia . It has been a National Monument since February 15, 1990 .
The construction goes back to an initiative of the missionary Ferdinand Lang , who set up the first school in the old bowling alley of the mine hotel around 1912. The school building was built three years later; financed by donations of 15,000 marks. The stone building was expanded to include additional rooms in 1920. The building only served as a school for 23 German children due to the First World War before it was converted into a military hospital in 1918. From 1920 it was used again as a school for up to 100 students before it had to close in 1950. Since 1975 the building has been used as the Tsumeb Museum .
