The German School Medellín ( Spanish Colegio Alemán Medellín ) is the youngest of the four German schools abroad in Colombia . It was only founded in 1968 and is located in the municipality ( municipio ) Itagüí south of Medellín .

history

The German School Medellín was founded in 1968 on the initiative of German and Colombian families. In 1972 the school received a 7.8 hectare site as a gift from Benedikta zur Nieden de Echavarría, located near the Parque Ditaires of Itagüi.

Within the following decade, the German School was finally recognized by the Colombian Ministry of Education, so that the Colombian Abitur could now also be taken. Since 2008 it has also been possible to obtain the International Baccalaureate , which gives participating students the opportunity to study at universities around the world.

In 2012, the first federal and state inspection of the Federal Republic of Germany took place, during which the German School Medellín was awarded the title of “Excellent School Abroad”.
