The German Wushu Federation eV (DWF) is the official German trade association for modern Wushu (in Germany often known under the term Kung-Fu ). The headquarters of the federal office is in Rees .
Memberships
The DWF is a recognized member of the European Wushu Federation and the International Wushu Federation | International Wushu Federation. The DWF does not belong to the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
history
The roots of the DWF go back to the early 1970s, in 1985 a German association for Shaolin Kempo and Kung-Fu was founded, which the DWF regards as its forerunner. In 1988 this German Shaolin Kempo / Kung Fu Association merged with another association and the German Wushu Federation was created in its current form. Also in 1988 it was recognized by the European Wushu Federation (EWF) and the Chinese Wushu Association. In 1990 the German Wushu Federation eV was represented with 38 other nations at the founding assembly of the International Wushu Federation (IWUF).
In 1991 the DWF sent a team to the first Wushu World Championship in Beijing and since then has been represented by athletes at almost all Wushu World Championships. In 1995 the DWF's federal performance center was built in Rees .
aims
The purpose of the association is to maintain and represent the interests of Wushu in Germany. The DWF understands the term "Wushu" to mean all forms of exercise in gymnastics , combat and self-defense sports that are performed with and / or without traditional Chinese weapons. In addition to martial arts styles originating from China, modified forms such as Shaolin Kempo are also understood.
Competitions
The DWF organizes German championships and sends athletes to international tournaments such as European or world championships. In 2008, the DWF celebrated their most successful team to date at a Wushu World Championship with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

The DWF has regional associations in several federal states.

The German Wushu Federation participates in the DOSB's Integration through Sport program , which is funded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior .
