The German Aikido Association (DAB) is an association in which Aikido associations from Germany are organized. It is a non-profit association based in Bad Bramstedt . The DAB was founded there on April 10, 1977 on the initiative of Rolf Brand and Erhard Altenbrandt , who had built up and headed the Aikido section of the German Judo Association since 1966 . Many Aikidoka from the Aikido section switched to the new association, so that the German Aikido Association became one of the Aikido associations with the largest number of members in Germany.

The German Aikido Association had declared its sole recognition by the German Sports Association and the associated allocation of funds in court. This led to tensions with other aikido associations. After internal differences of opinion, Rolf Brand, who was chairman of the German Aikido Association from 1977 to 1999, founded the Aikido Union Germany in 2002 . The German Aikido Association continues with a new association management.
