The German Alliance for Child Soldiers (also: German coordination for children soldiers ) is an alliance of twelve non-governmental organizations founded in 1999 (ten today).

The central goal is the worldwide ban on the use of child soldiers under the age of 18, including through information and lobbying work, as well as targeted projects for children and young people who have already been affected. The alliance sees itself as a branch of the international Child Soldiers International (formerly Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers ), which has existed since 1998.

activities

The alliance wants to first draw attention to the problem of "child soldiers". To this end, it does lobby work and wants to work against the use of child soldiers with high-profile campaigns such as the "Red Hand" campaign.

Some of the member organizations carry out their own projects in different countries, such as rehabilitation centers for former child soldiers in Northern Uganda ( World Vision Germany ) or help for traumatized children and young people in the form of self-help groups ( Kindernothilfe ).

Goal setting

The central aim of the campaign is the worldwide ban on the use of child soldiers under the age of 18 ("straight 18") - regardless of whether they are forcibly or "voluntarily" recruited.

  • Children under the age of 18 are not allowed to be recruited voluntarily or forcibly or used as soldiers in wars and conflicts (straight 18).
  • People, states and armed groups who recruit children and use them as soldiers must be publicly named (by the UN Security Council) and sanctioned (economic consequences, travel bans, account freezes). Those responsible must be brought before the International Criminal Court or national courts.
  • Former child soldiers need medical and psychological care. You must have received school or vocational training. This is especially true if they come to industrialized countries like Germany as refugees.
  • Former child soldiers must be granted political asylum and protection in the countries to which they have fled.
  • State and international funding for prevention and reintegration programs for child soldiers must be increased.
  • There must be no exports of weapons (not even individual parts or ammunition) in crisis regions where children are used. This is especially true for small arms. Production licenses and exports to third countries that forward the weapons to crisis areas must be prohibited.
