exhibition
In a former farm building of Wadgassen Abbey , exhibits on the historical development, technical production and distribution of the newspaper are shown on an area of around 500 square meters . A collection of historical newspaper copies of international importance is also presented. The DZM's holdings, which are presented in a lavishly restored former monastery building, consist of around 4,000 exhibits on the history of the press as well as an extensive specialist library and an archive . The museum is sponsored by the Saarland Cultural Heritage Foundation .
The exhibition is divided into three thematic areas:
- History of the newspaper from the beginning to 1962
- Technical and historical aspects of newspaper production
- Our newspaper today
In addition to classic museum work, the museum also wants to convey the importance of newspapers and other print media in an interesting and lively way as an extracurricular experience-oriented learning location . To this end, the museum has developed a new concept that enables visitors with a mobile phone ( Bluetooth support required) to take part in an interactive tour and a quiz. In this way, the information should be better absorbed, processed and understood by the visitor.
