history

In 1948 Walter Eisbein, Konrad Kral and Arno Lippinghoff founded the company Develop KG Dr. Eisbein & Co. initially produced in Stuttgart - Zuffenhausen , in 1962 the company moved to Dieselstrasse in Gerlingen .

A key product was the Develop D 10 flash copier , the first so-called “dry copier”, a world first at the time. After preliminary work by Agfa and Gevaert , the Develop flash copier was one of the first office copiers that could be used on a wide scale. Develop had been using the diffusion process since 1949, a method developed independently by Agfa and Gevaert as early as 1938. This simplified photographic process made it possible for the first time to work in daylight and without a fixing process. In addition to being used for photocopies, it also served as the basis for the instant camera .

The new process quickly spread worldwide in the 1950s, not least because the “Eisbein patent” was licensed to 17 other manufacturers. In addition, the first advertising shots were made for the “Blitzkopierer” and the “Develop Kombi” “Two minutes for a copy”.

In the 1960s and 1970s, electrostatics were used for the first time in copying technology. At that time, Develop was the only manufacturer to offer devices for all processes: diffusion , electrostatics, dual-spectral and offset printing .

In 1976 the Develop 330 , also known as the “people's copier”, was presented. The small, automatic workplace copier owes its name to its great popularity and sales success.

In 1981 the company developed the Develop 10, which was then the smallest copier in the world, and received six international awards for its design. Develop signed a partnership agreement with Minolta and from then on produced all small and medium-sized machines for the European market.

In 1982, Develop settled in the city of Meßkirch after Dual's Meßkirch branch was closed . The branch there continued to employ 50 of the former 270 employees. After Minolta joined Develop, the production of EP50 copiers began here on July 1, 1986, which were also offered as Develop 200; 3000 pieces should be produced monthly. The Develop 100 came on the market, well over 100,000 devices were produced, and also sold as Minolta EP30 , Rank Xerox 5007 and Agfa Copydesk .

In the 1990s, the company was completely taken over by Minolta and converted as Develop GmbH into a service and sales subsidiary with 120 employees. Develops first digital black and white copier appeared with the D 3000iD , followed a year later by the first digital device in color, the DFC 100 (Develop Full Color).

In 2003 Minolta and Konica merged to form Konica Minolta with over 20,500 employees and Develop GmbH relocated its headquarters from Gerlingen to Langenhagen near Hanover. Develop was thus a full subsidiary of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH . In October 2012, the business activities of Develop GmbH were transferred to Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH and Konica Minolta Business Solutions Deutschland GmbH.
