Dhimitër Pasko (also Mitrush Kuteli ; born September 13, 1907 in Pogradec , † May 4, 1967 in Tirana ) was an Albanian writer and translator.

Life

Origin and education

Pasko was born in Pogradec, his father was a tailor from the Mokra Mountains . He started publishing poems in Pogradec magazines in 1919. From 1921 he attended a commercial college in Thessaloniki , where he founded the Kristoforidhi community. He published Pasko's first writings in Romania , where he completed his training in 1931. In 1934 he received his doctorate in economics with magna cum ladue .

Second World War

During World War II , his legion was sent to Stalingrad . However, he was able to return to Pogradec from Bucharest to meet his sick mother, who however died shortly before his arrival. He was then employed as an economist in Tirana, but was arrested by the government. After his release, he continued his work as a poet and translator.

Pasko's literary works spread quickly. His main works include Net shqiptare (Albanian nights), Ago Jakupi , Kapllan Aga i Shaban Shpatës , Dashuria e berberit Artan (The love of the tailor Artan), Sulm e lot (storm and tears), Mall e breng (loss and suffering) and Tregime shqiptare (Albanian stories). Above all, however, he is known for E madhe është gjëma e mëkatit (Great is the consequence of sin).

In Pasko's stories, the difficulties of life in the villages during feudalism are presented realistically. His characters represent dissatisfaction with reality and the negative aspects of society. Because of this, he was persecuted and viewed as an enemy of the government.
