Dia is a diagram, drawing and illustration program and UML tool that is part of the Gnome project and is under the GNU General Public License .
functionality
Dia is used to visually represent various processes and structures - primarily in the form of diagrams . Various templates with suitable tools and symbols, for example for program flow charts and business processes, can be used for this purpose and these can be dragged and dropped onto a document. The functionality of Dia is partially comparable to the proprietary Visio program .
Standard objects are available for creating structured diagrams, with the help of which complex structures can be set up. There are modes for flowcharts , network and UML diagrams. However, there are also some generic functions that can be used to create simple drawings.
The program has a number of output formats, such as EPS , SVG , CGM and PNG . The diagram types can be expanded as object types that are not yet supported can be added via XML files.
The program's own file format ".dia" is an XML file packed with Gzip .
In the latest version, both Windows and Linux have replaced the old multi-window view with a view with only one window.
Surroundings
The program implemented as part of a Gnome project uses the GTK + and can therefore also run on Windows .
