Microsoft Visio ( English [ ˈmaɪ.kɹoʊ.sɒft vɪzɪjoʊ ]) is a visualization program from Microsoft for Windows . The software belongs to the Microsoft Office family in the broadest sense , but is not part of an Office suite and can therefore only be purchased separately.

Since Office Visio 2003 there has only been a standard and a professional edition. Previous editions such as the Technical and Enterprise Editions have been integrated into the Professional Edition. With the introduction of Visio 2010, there is an additional premium edition includes advanced tools that enable business processes and SharePoint - workflows can be modeled.

Visio, along with the software of the same name, was bought by Microsoft in January 2000 for around 1.3  billion US dollars .

functionality

Visio is used to create graphic representations with the help of various templates with suitable tools and symbols. The resulting diagrams can be easily embedded in other documents , for example using drag and drop , but also as a separate file (* .vsd). It is particularly suitable for flowcharts and business processes , but also other types of diagrams , for example simple technical drawings and UML diagrams can be created with it (see UML tools ). The special thing about Visio diagrams is that the individual shapes , which are located in so-called stencils , can be linked to data from any database and Excel tables. With Visio Services, such diagrams can also be presented to other employees on a company's SharePoint server without them having to have Visio installed on their computer.

Trivia

Office Visio has been advertised for the first time by means of a commercial on YouTube since March 2008 .

With the introduction of Visio 2010, various spots were created in which well-known fairy tales were visualized.
