InLoox is software from Munich-based manufacturer InLoox GmbH for project planning , project documentation , mind mapping and project controlling integrated in Microsoft Outlook and on the web. InLoox was founded in 1999. InLoox has been represented by an independent company (InLoox, Inc.) since 2011.

Basic concept

InLoox makes use of the communication and groupware functions of Microsoft Outlook and extends its range of functions to include the "project management" area. Classic Gantt planning is supplemented by features from CRM and controlling software. Especially projects of small and medium size are processed with the program.

The software is currently used by over 60,000 users worldwide. An English, French and Spanish version has been available since 2007. An Italian version followed in August 2008 and a Russian version in November 2008.

Technology and strategy

A special feature is the complete integration in Outlook, which should enable the use of existing data from calendars, contacts and e-mails. The manufacturer claims to have recognized that the strategy of aligning business processes with communication processes increases employee acceptance of project management software when used in companies.

Current projects are saved in a common database . In 2007 the manufacturer decided to change the system. In the previous versions (2.x to 4.x) all data and options are located on Microsoft Exchange Server or in an Outlook data file . The switch to SQL is probably a reaction to the abolition of public Exchange folders announced by Microsoft for years.

Since version 5, Oracle , Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL can be used depending on the number of simultaneous users . According to the manufacturer, there are interfaces to Microsoft Project , Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server . Microsoft Project has also been supported since version 6.

With InLoox Web App, InLoox also offers a web application that is currently in version 9. The web client enables project teams to connect via the Internet and work together on projects while on the go. Since June 2013, is the InLoox Mobile Apps for iPhone and Android devices also InLoox- applications for mobile devices.

SaaS solution

In 2012 InLoox launched the SaaS solution InLoox now! With the help of cloud technology, users can use InLoox PM Web App without installing software and without their own server. InLoox now! is device and platform independent and can be accessed via various common internet browsers. In contrast to the classic license model , access to InLoox now! rented for the duration of the contract and includes installation, maintenance and software upgrades.
