Diamond Museum in Amsterdam
The Diamond Museum in Amsterdam (proper name: Diamond Museum ) is located on Museumplein in the city center of Amsterdam . It was opened in April 2007 and presents interesting facts about the creation, mining, trading and processing of diamonds . The museum is owned by BA Meier, the owner of the neighboring diamond processing company Coster Diamonds . The museum is located in a 19th century villa on Paulus Potterstraat. It is connected to the Coster Diamonds buildings, where museum visitors can view machining processes and purchase jewelry products.

The museum consists of a permanent and changing special exhibitions. Extensive film and illustrative material is used for documentation. Another area is dedicated to the trade and processing of gemstones - until the 20th century, Amsterdam was the world's most important trading and processing center for diamonds. In addition to historical processing equipment, replicas of the 22 most famous diamonds in the world are shown. Finally, films about spectacular diamond thefts can be seen and in a kitschy, mirror-clad room (“Glamor Room”) well-known songs on the subject are played ( Shirley Bassey : “ Diamonds Are Forever ”, Marilyn Monroe : “ Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend ” and other).
In temporary exhibitions, replicas of important crowns set with precious stones as well as the "katana sword" made in Murano by jewelry and glass artists Monique Zegerius and Lilly B are shown. It is set with 1967 diamonds (total weight 54.48 carats ) and 494 rubies (total weight 10.69 carats). A copy of Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night - decorated with 504 diamonds - is presented. There is also a gorilla skull set with 17,000 diamonds (“Coster Skull”) - a reminiscence of the work of art “ For the Love of God ” by Damien Hirst .
