The Diana Pond is a small artificial pond near Darmstadt .
geography
The approx. 0.3 hectare pond is located approx. 250 meters southeast of the Dianaburg . It is connected to this via the Calypso lane , which can be hiked. It is drained via the Silz and Mühlbach rivers.
history
The Dianateich was named after a figure from Roman mythology . It was around 1600 under the reign of Landgrave Ludwig V created. The pond was mainly used for fish farming . Carp and tench were the most popular types of fish. Fish farming helped the sovereigns to supply their large households.
Flora and fauna
Different species of birds live in the pond; including ducks , wild geese and kites . Numerous native fish species animate the pond. It is surrounded by mixed forest.
