Dick Matena (born April 24, 1943 in The Hague ) is a Dutch comic artist and author. Both children's ( Panda ) and adult comics ( The Five Last Days of Edgar Allan Poe , "Red Ears") come from him. In Germany he is best known for the series Peer Viking ( Grote Pyr ) and for working on Storm (under the pseudonym John Kelly ).

Life

Matena finished his school education early and worked in various professions. He joined Marten Toonder's studio in 1960 and worked there as a draftsman until 1968 on the series Tom Puss and Panda, among others . His first own series ( Polletje Pluim ) appeared in 1967. Under the pseudonym Dick Richard, he delivered the texts for the De Partners series in 1976 . His first realistically drawn comic ( Virl ) appeared in the Mickey Maandblad in 1977 , which also meant the end of his career as a humorous draftsman.
