Frederik Barfod

Life

Barfod studied at the University of Copenhagen from 1828 , was a member of the constituent imperial assembly from 1848 to 1849 and later until 1869 a member of the Folketing , for some time an official in the Ministry of the Interior and finally an assistant at the Royal Library of Denmark. As a writer, he first appeared with poetic attempts and then published several historical works of lively, often somewhat overloaded portrayal: the history of Denmark and Norway under Frederick III. (Danmarks og Norges Historie under Kong Frederik den tredie) , biography of the Ranzau family and the monograph The Jews in Denmark .

After the death of Frederick VI. he admitted unreservedly to ultra-radical views and became one of the most passionate champions of the Nordic idea of unity or the Scandinavian idea.

With this in mind, he founded the quarterly Brage og Idun: et nordisk Fjærdingårsskrift in 1839 , which caused a great stir, but only existed until 1842. His best-known works are the stories from his fatherland's history ( Fortællinger af Fædrelandets Historie , 4th edition 1873, 2 vols.). Later published by him: Kong Kristian den Niendes Regerings-Dagbog (1869); Billeder af Nord's history (1874); Seks Forelæsninger over Nordens Oldtid (1876) and Ledetraad i Danmarks Historie (9th edition 1879).
