Edith "Didi" Conn , née Bernstein (born July 13, 1951 in New York City , New York ) is an American actress .

She had her first appearance on television in 1973 in a supporting role. In 1976 she landed a secondary permanent role in the sitcom The Practice ("Die Praxis", German title: Laughing on prescription ) where she appeared in 27 episodes until 1977.

She had her first big role in 1977 in the film You Light Up My Life in which she portrayed the aspiring young singer Laurie Robinson, who comes to fame through the song of the same name. In the film, she was given the singing voice of Kvitka "Kasey" Cisyk , and the song won the 1978 Oscar for best movie song and a Golden Globe Award . You Light Up My Life was also a great success in the real world in the version of Debbie Boone and was number one in the American Top 40 for ten weeks , which was a world record in America at the time, and brought the singer a sustainable career as well Grammy one.

Didi Conn is best known in Germany for her role as "Pink Lady" Frenchy in the two Grease films from 1978 and 1982. Between 1981 and 1985 she was involved in 72 of 159 episodes of the sitcom Benson . Her other work, dominated by many television roles, did not match her early successes.

In 2019 she took part in the eleventh season of the British figure skating show Dancing on Ice .

Private

Born in Brooklyn, New York to a clinical psychologist, the actress was married to actor Frank Conn from 1975 to 1978 . The autistic Danny, born in 1992, comes from her second marriage, begun in 1982, to the composer David Shire , who among many other things also made music for The Practice . Didi Conn has been committed to autism ever since . Her brother is the opera singer Richard Bernstein .
