description
Didierea madagascariensis grows unbranched or with few, strong and upright shoots that are often curved at the top. The plants reach a height of 4 to 6 meters and a trunk diameter of up to 50 centimeters. On the 0.5 to 5 centimeter long warts 4 strong and radiant thorns are formed, of which the lowest is 4 to 10 centimeters long and the two on the sides are much shorter. The 4, sometimes only 3 or up to 10, linear leaves arise in the center of the areole and are 7 to 15 centimeters long and 0.5 to 1 centimeter wide. They are delicate, gray-green in color and quickly ephemeral.
The abundant flowers completely encompass the upper parts of the shoot. They are pale yellowish to greenish red in color. The fruits are 3 to 5 millimeters in size.
