The Bachschmiede in Wals

The Bachschmiede is the cultural center of the municipality of Wals-Siezenheim that opened in 2008 .

history

The history of the Bachschmiede can be traced back to 1567. At that time Georg Markhner built the Bachschmied-Haus am Mühlbach below the parish church of Wals standing on a conglomerate rock . In 1985, at the suggestion of Sepp Forcher , the revitalization of the building was considered. Initially planned as a local museum, it was then opened in 2008 as a museum and cultural center.

The so-called time stone can be seen on the square in front of the Bachschmiede . This is a four by two meter tall and eleven ton heavy stone made of Untersberg marble. It shows the history of the Wals-Siezenheim community in pictures. The artistic stone carving was carried out by students from the vocational school in Walserfeld based on a design by Franz Hirnsperger; every stonemason has signed his relief with his or her stonemason's mark.

Cultural Opportunities

The heart of the museum is the extensively restored forge of the former Bachschmied family Reischl, which was revived as a show forge. The extensive collection of horseshoes belonging to the Ebner family from Loig can be found in the former horseshoe chamber . The rooms on the first floor give an insight into the way of life in the 19th century and are particularly reminiscent of the son of a Bach smith, Jakob Lechner, a former professor at the Vienna Military Veterinary Institute .

In the attached cultural center there is a museum that is mainly devoted to Salzburg-Bavarian topics. A first exhibition in 2008 related to 1809 - Napoleon's Army in front of Salzburg ( Fourth Napoleonic War ), a current exhibition is devoted to the coinage of the past 2000 years ( From the Roman denarius to the euro - 2000 years of money in Salzburg and neighboring Bavaria ), the next Exhibition is about sacred folk art from the regional environment.

The permanent exhibition in the museum is The Roman Villa Rustica in Loig , a Roman country estate that was discovered in the Loig district in 1815. The copy of Theseus mosaic is particularly impressive . The originals of the mosaics found are in the holdings of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna .

There is also a collection of antique toys in the museum, which goes back to Karin Gugg's collecting activity. The changing historical and current toys on display provide an insight into the cultural history of toys and the growing toy industry of the 19th and 20th centuries

In an art gallery (foyer to the event hall), exhibitions by a wide variety of artists are regularly presented (including Robert Roubin , Ute Födermayr, Käthe Perner).

The variable Sepp-Forcher-Halle is the location of theater performances, lectures, cabaret performances (including Martina Schwarzmann , Vince Ebert , Kernölamazonen , Monika Gruber ), the International Walser Film Festival and concert events.
