Life

He attended the teacher training college in Salzburg and passed the Matura there in 1965 ; then he did military service in the Austrian armed forces. He is married to Edda R., the couple has the daughter Corinna. He was a teacher for German, gymnastics and art education at various schools, a. a. in Wals and most recently as headmaster at the secondary school in Bergheim near Salzburg.

He received his artistic training from E. Böhler and A. Schmidbauer in Salzburg. Since 2001, Roubin has been working exclusively as a freelance artist. The painter and graphic artist works in a painting and graphics studio and as a book illustrator and caricaturist in Salzburg . Examples of his works are regularly purchased by the Salzburg Museum .

The larger the sheets of paper, the more bizarre, often 'grotesque' his scenes become. One thinks of the great draftsmen of classical modernism. Kubin , Herzmanovski-Orlando and repeatedly discovered echoes of this Austrian tradition in Roubin's pictures. The small works, however, are intimate, loving and of great elegance. ... The artist's incredibly finely nuanced etchings and paintings show his technical talent. In his pictures he is a storyteller who lovingly deals with human weaknesses. These are never sarcastic, but rather seen with a small smile. "

The Arttime gallery in Udine describes his work as follows:

It is impossible to categorize Robert Roubin's art. In fact, we are in front of a 360 ° artist, a creative personality for whom dynamic energy is the engine for technical and stylistic experiments: from a vaguely surreal atmosphere to a happy and lively dimension. In Roubin we feel a very strong desire to paint simple and complex works at the same time, which please the eye very much, but never "leggère", but in fact always a harbinger of reflection and deepening.
