The Gerlitzen ( Slovenian Osojščica ) is a mountain north of the village of Annenheim and south of the municipality of Arriach in Carinthia , Austria , whose mountain top is 1909 meters high. The Gerlitzen is one of the southernmost Nockberge Mountains and an excellent mountain for views. The name Gerlitzen is derived from the old Slavic Gorelice (from goreti = to burn) and indicates an area with fire blisters. As an invitation to the young peasant boys' wrestling, which has been taking place here since time immemorial, fires that can be seen from afar were kindled on the evening before the wrestling matches.
Carinthia's oldest mountain railway, the Kanzelbahn built by Adolf Bleichert & Co. , has been leading from Annenheim to the Kanzelhöhe , a pre-summit with an observatory of the University of Graz , since January 1928 . The paved two-lane Gerlitzen Alpenstraße (toll road) leads from Bodensdorf (municipality of Steindorf am Ossiacher See ) up to 1,800 m above sea level. There are hotels both in the valley and on the mountain. The mountain is accessible through a ski area, in summer through a dense network of hiking trails. The mountain is popular with paragliders and hang-gliders (Annenheim landing site to the west, directly in front of Lake Ossiach ). On August 7, 2004 a paragliding and hang gliding show took place.
The Finsterbach rises to the south-east of the summit and falls over three waterfalls near its confluence with Lake Ossiach near Sattendorf .
The Gerlitzen Alpe is the tourist highlight of the central community of Arriach. In winter you can get to the mountain from Arriach with the chair lift of the Klösterlebahn or by car via the toll road in Sauerwald. Here you can drive to the Neugarten lift, the Huabahittn or the Pacheiner.
Lifts and cable cars
The Gerlitzen Alpe has 15 lifts: a gondola, 7 chairlifts, 3 drag lifts, 2 button lifts and two practice lifts. The ski area is called Gerlitzen Alpe but is also called the Gerlitzen ski area .
In the winter of 2005, the lift company caused great excitement when it became the first Austrian ski area to introduce a fee of € 5 for ski tourers. This fee, which was maintained in the next season, was justified with the use of the parking spaces and the slopes by ski tourers. Insurance cover is also included in this fee. Opponents of this fee see this as a first step towards the introduction of general entrance fees for athletes and those seeking relaxation in Austria's natural landscapes. Such a fee also contradicts the right to freely enter the forest and natural landscapes.
Main feeder
The only gondola lift from Annenheim is a 4-seater gondola lift (BJ 1987) (Kanzelbahn). The connection to this lift is a 4-seater chair lift (with hoods), detachable (summit lift) (YOC 1988). From Bodensdorf, first a T-bar lift (Birkenhoflift) and then a 6-seater chairlift (with hoods and seat heating), detachable (6-seater family jet) (BJ 2015), lead to the summit. From Klösterle (Arriach) two detachable 4-seater chairlifts (both built in 1990) lead to the summit.
The Neugarten 8-seater Carving Jet (8-seater chairlift, detachable year 2007 replaces a drag lift) is the only main feeder that does not leave or continue from any valley (Klösterle 2 connects to Klösterle I and Gipfelbahn connects to the Kanzelbahn).
Secondary feeder
In addition to the summit lift, the Mosernlift (double chairlift, fixed-grip year 1986) and the Pöllinger Bahn (double chairlift, fixed-grip year 1970) run to the Pöllingerhütte. The rest of the route is only approached with the Gipfelbahn. The Pacheinerlift, Sonnenlift, Lodronlift and the Finsterbach-Seitensprunglift as well as two practice lifts complete the offer of the Gerlitzen.

Archaeological finds
In 1903 a late Celtic hoard was found in a scree field at the foot of the table linen wall on the western slope of the Gerlitzen . It contained 37 silver coins of the Boischer and Norian style. Two Roman coins and two Dacian silver bracelets are also part of the find. The hoard is probably a dedication from the time from 43 to 15 BC. BC, as it was often to be found in the Celtic settlement area.
