The pulpit height is 1524  m above sea level. A. high pre-summit of the Gerlitzen north of the Ossiacher See , ten kilometers northeast of Villach in the federal state of Carinthia . The pre-summit stands steeply above the lake and should have its name because of the impressive view.

On the mountain, which has long been accessible by a cable car, there is a hotel and a little to the side the Kanzelhöhe solar observatory of the University of Graz (IGAM area), which was built between 1941 and 1942 . The valley station of the Kanzelbahn is located near the lakeshore in Annenheim , a serpentine road leads up from Treffen on the west side of the mountain range.
