The Bavarian Lion was a Bavarian band based in Munich . The group was founded in 1977 by Rudolf Gregor Knabl. Knabl is the son of the well-known zither virtuoso Rudi Knabl . After the Biermösl Blosn , which was formed in 1976, the Bavarian Lions were one of the first groups to recompose Bavarian folk music and add humorous lyrics.

Band history

The band members met at the University of Music in Munich . It was quickly agreed that there was no such thing as virtuously played, newly composed Bavarian folk music. The Bavarian Lions decided to fill this gap. After numerous appearances with traditional representatives of the genre, Bayerischer Rundfunk became aware of the group. Joe Kienemann and Thomas Brennicke invited the musicians to appear on the program “Unterhaltungswerkstatt”. Through the broadcast, the band became known to a wider audience. The record company EMI Electrola signed a record deal with the Bavarian Lions. After another year with numerous appearances a. a. on the 2nd German television , the band broke up in 1979. Rudolf Gregor Knabl: “We were too early on the market with this new Bavarian folk music. Ten years later the bands in this genre shot up like mushrooms. "
